3/11/2023 0 Comments I need you moonlightWhat about academicians taking up online classes after work at an institute? Oh, I forgot doctors who provide their own services but may be working at a hospital as well. You may have seen actors investing their time in new production houses or cricket teams. The moonlight phenomenon is not new to our economy. They cannot be questioned for how they spend their time, provided they show up for you every time, and your business never suffers. Similarly, even if you bind an individual by the hours they work for your business, the labour laws will always make you take a step back and let them have the rest of their hours to themselves. Employers and thought leaders have time and again endorsed the idea of measuring performance based on the outcome of the efforts and not by the hours put in to realize those numbers. Let me extend this discussion to the recent change in performance metrics. Would employers change policies OR are they ready to let go of permanent employees as more and more become active participants of the gig economy/ take up a side hustle? What do you do if you are being recognized at a platform where you need to spare a few hours during weekends to help them in return? What do you do if you want to do something you love but it may not necessarily pay the bills?Īnd now, it's time for the final question. We may have observed an uptick in some spheres because of remote work but the gig economy has proved to be fruitful for the mind and the wallet. Please don't blame the pandemic for this recent storm. Should you just rely on online courses when you feel the need to upskill or hone your skills? What do you do if you need more money? (to cater to a personal need or professional choice) Unfortunately, the interschool debate couldn't pick sides and some questions were left unanswered. One school educates the Gen-I about the importance of a side hustle and hustle culture, the other has stringent rules about being a mono-worker (IYKYK). The 'limelight' is now on the divide between two schools of thought, new-age and legacy. Seems fair, right?īut recently, things got interesting. * Ouch! Fast forward to the day when Swiggy announced an industry-first moonlighting policy that would allow employees to take up new projects outside office hours, maybe on weekends, as long as it doesn't hamper their productivity at their primary job. I'm sorry! Forgot about the moonlight fiasco.įorget burnout and flexible work for a second, let's make a quick recap to a Workstars report that states that 8 out of 10 millennials start looking for a new job if they don't feel appreciated by their peers or leaders. This is not a sponsored post (I wish :P).
